Key Management

Joe Purohit, Founder & CEO
Joe’s career spans over 25 years of experience in engineering and management positions at General Electric, AT&T, BP-Amoco, and several early stage software and technology companies. At General Electric (1979-84), he developed highly distributed, real-time protection and control systems for electric power utility networks. He then worked at AT&T’s Network Systems Division (1986-91) in strategy, planning and marketing to effect AT&T’s transition from a national monopoly to a globally competitive business.

He joined Amoco in 1991 to grow the company’s fiber optic and photovoltaic (PV) businesses through acquisitions and new market development. Then from 1994-1999, while based in Moscow and London, Joe was country manager for BP-Amoco’s electric power business in Russia, Europe and India. In Russia, he was instrumental in winning Amoco’s participation in the largest ($900 million) Russian private sector power project. It became an exemplar for the restructuring of the national electric power industry in the Gore-Chernomyrdin Summits.

Joe received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical power engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, India (1978) and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NY (1979), and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business (1986). His language skills include three Indian languages, and German and Russian, both of which he could speak at the intermediate level at one time.
